Happy List

Photobucket

This week I am Happy because I had a wonderful weekend.  We did not go for our drive as we had planned but we did get things done around the house that needed to be done for the upcoming winter.

I am HAPPY our deck is cleaned for the season and the porch is once again storage of furniture from the deck.

I am HAPPY our Halloween decorations are out.  I plan on posting more about Halloween but here is a sneak peak of one item.

I am HAPPY that we asked Emily to come over to assist with us.  Emily and Todd time is very infrequent.  I think they need more time with one another.  She loved it and she ended up having dinner with us.  Dad and daughter ended up watching t.v. with one another and chatted.  It was time they both needed, a little one on one time.  Todd later thanked me for asking her to come over.  He was thrilled to have time with her alone.  We do not see Emily often, so it was enjoyable.

We picked up some toys for Taj to play with at our house.  He is out growing most of the toys we have.  HAPPY while Todd, Ethan, and Noah tried their hardest to have Taj come look at the new toys, Nana scored number one still with Taj.  He wanted to cook with me.  I love my little helper.

The entire house is HAPPY when the Big Bang Theory song from Barenaked Ladies come on, well when Taj is over that is.  He LOVES this song and will run into the room where it is playing so he can dance to it.  Here is a picture of him dancing to the music being played on Ethan's Ipod.

He flaps his little arms and taps his right foot.  He starts to giggle and looks at those he loves. He becomes giddy when they sing "Pyramid" and the last "Bang" makes him jump up and down.

Life is good this week here on Wakefield.  I am very HAPPY with my life right now.  I have such a wonderful family and love spending time with each one of them.

What do you have to be HAPPY about?  Come join in on the fun.  Ricki Jill from Art @ Home is hosting while Mamarazzi is on a break.

Sunday's Song

Today's song makes me smile.  It brings me back to elementary school; dancing crazy at the baby sitter's listening and singing to this song.  I chose to post it this week because of Halloween.  Enjoy!

Friday Confessional

Photobucket

Woo Hoo it is Friday… time for confessionals!

I confess…

Wow! What a week it has been. Work is going crazy because of our client's open enrollments. I started to train my last group of temporary employees this week. I was notified I will be working overtime beginning 11/5-11-16. Each day I will have an extra two and half hours. Now to decide, will this extra money go toward Christmas or repairs on my car. The sensible part of me says repairs, the wanting to please people is going for Christmas funds. I guess we will see what part of me wins.

I confess…

I was also told by my supervisor they want me to be licensed to sell insurance so I can assist with enrollments or calls regarding individual voluntary benefits. Thank the Lord I will have two months to study for this because with all the training and overtime, I do not think I will have enough time to study.

I confess…

The weather is definitely hurting me regarding sinus infection. I was starting to feel better but then we had another 23 degree change in the temperatures. I hope the antibiotic I am on will make this one short lived.

I confess…

Taj is such a little bright spot this week. I swear he just keeps impressing his Nana every week. He is now addressing me Nana every time he address me. I love hearing him say it too. Grandpa is Dodo for now. I do not think Grandpa enjoys being called Dodo. (he he he) I took some adorable pictures of Grandpa and Taj playing in the leaves but I am unable to upload them from my phone. I do not have a data package in the past I could send it to myself by email but now they made some changes where I have to have a data package in order to do so. (sad face) I think I just about peed my pants laughing so hard at the two of them. He also can do all the hand motions now for 'Patty Cake' and 'Itsy Bitsy Spider'; I love watching him play. When I asked him to show Mommy he even surprised us. He sang with 'Itsy Bitsy Spider' saying, "Ity Bity Pider" of course I thought it was the cutest thing ever. I just love that kid.

I confess…

I had two concerts to go to this week. One was for Joshua's, he sings with the University of Iowa. I enjoyed it, although he felt it was not a good performance. The other was for Noah's, he sings in the junior high choir. You definitely can tell for the 7th graders this was their first performance. They did a good job but a lot of swaying back and forth.

I confess…

Over all this has been a good week. Todd and I are planning to prepare for winter around the house on Saturday and go for a autumn drive somewhere on Sunday. I can not wait. Last years' autumn drive was so fun. I can not wait. I definitely plan to bring my camera, unfortunately in some parts of Iowa the trees are past the prime time. I am not sure how many actual nice pictures I will have this year. I love Todd working first shift but we do not get to do things on the weekends as much because he is now working during the day.

Well that is all I have to confess this week. How about you? Come join in, Aubrey @ High-Heeled Love is hosting Friday Confessionals while Mamarazzi is on her blog break.

Happy List

Photobucket
I have been sick the past few days.  I actually have not posted anything since Friday. I did a pre-post for my Sunday's Song last week.  The Sinus Infection has whipped my butt big time.  I feel like I have let my friends down here and need to catch up.  I need to catch up on my 31 Days of Simple Joy as well.

My mind is not here right now.  I am having a little conflict at home and sometimes I feel caught between a rock and a hard spot.  However, I will dig deep and find my Happy List.

I am HAPPY my antibiotic is starting to kick in some.  It makes me HAPPY that Todd looks out for me and takes care of things (well some things) while I am down.

I am HAPPY Taj is regularly calling out to me by the name he has given me.  To him, I am Nana not Grandma, so Nana it will be.  I love it when he calls out to me wanting something.  His little voice saying Nana as clear as day just puts a smile on my face as I type this.  His vocabulary is just expanding so quickly.  I can not believe at times, I hear a full sentence from him.  "I like it."  "This is good."  He is such a smart little guy.  He signs to us when he wants "more" of something.  It is so hard to believe he is only 16.5 months.

I am HAPPY my overtime did not start this week, although this will hurt my Christmas budget, it does allow me to go to both Joshua's and Noah's concert this week.  I am also HAPPY because I am not feeling well enough to put in extra time.  I came home today and took a 20 minute nap during my lunch hour.

Oh one more HAPPY... When I went to the doctor I had to step on the scale.  The nurse and the doctor mentioned how great it was I am losing weight.  I have lost 21 pounds since I was in the office last.  HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY.  Now to go down even further before my next appointment in February.

Well that is all I can pull out today.  What are you Happy about?  Come join the fun.  Ricki Jill is hosting Happy List at Art@Home while Mamarazzi is on her break.

Sunday's Song

I love listening to the Dixie Chicks.  This would easily be one of my top five songs sung by the group.  I love the harmony, the steal guitar, and with most of their songs the violin (fiddle).  This particular song the fiddle is missing, but their harmonies are outstanding with this song.  Enjoy!

Friday Confessional

Photobucket

It is that time of week...confession time.

I confess..

I am starting to feel a little worn down from the change of weather.  This always happens, sinus fill up and drain, then followed by several weeks of coughing.  I am trying hard to prevent it to developing into something long term.  Due to feeling like this and the weather... my further confessions stem from.

I confess...

Sometimes I just want to run away.
You know just check out from everything for just a few days.
You know run to a place where there are beautiful waterfalls.
Where I can sit on a beach and just listen to the water falling
Or rushing to the shore.
You know where the sun is shinning and kissing your skin with just enough warmth.

I confess...

Sometimes I just want to run away.
You know just a little mental vacation.
You know just to relax and rest.
Where you do not feel guilty because you did not wash any clothing
Or cooked any meals.
You know where you can be pampered kick up your feet and rest.

I confess...

Today is one of those days just a mental vacation was wonderful.
But some day...

What do you have to confess bout?  Stop over at Aubrey's @ High-Heeled Love and confess away.

31 Days of Simple Joy~ Day 18

Simple Joy of crafting.  I love doing anything crafty.  I loved art when I was younger and missed the fact I gave it up.  I am trying to find time to be more involved again with art.  I loved drawing, I loved painting, I loved working with chalk, coal, and clay.  I found doing anything with my creative side relaxing and rewarding.  This is one of my simple joys in life.

31 Days of Simple Joy~ Day 17

Today's Simple Joy is when my husband pitches in and helps me clean up the Kitchen after dinner.  I love how we talk about our day while we are doing this.  I do not know exactly what it is but it definitely turns me on seeing him help me with what was once known as domestic work.

Happy List/ 31 Days of Simple Joy~ Day 16

 Photobucket
It is Tuesday, which means it is time to post my Happy List.

I have been working very hard with my crossing off my organization projects this year.  HAPPY!  I sincerely can cross off all I had listed for the year.  I plan to post pictures maybe next week.  I just have a few things I need to purchase to complete my bedroom closet and the closet in the small living room.  I am so thrilled with how they turned out, that I have to open the doors every now and then and enjoy the view.  HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY.  I know, I am a little corny BUT I caught my husband doing the same thing with the small living room closet.

HAPPY, my working hard on the weekends while he is at work has inspired him too.  He cleaned the patio under our porch and deck.  Words can not express how HAPPY I am about this.  I would never let anyone go to our back yard or try to avoid taking a picture of the back of the house because how bad it was.  HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!

My list is short again this week.  Mainly because I have to save things to post for my 31 Days of Simple Joy, however check out my yesterday's post for Day 15.  My heart sung with that post and it truly made me HAPPY!

What do you have to be HAPPY about?  Come join Ricki Jill at Art@Home, she is hosting while Mamarazzi is on a break.  Oh by the way, this will also be my Day 16 of 31 Days of Simple Joy.

31 Days of Simple Joy~ Day 15

My Simple Joy today is my grandson.  He called me Nana for the first time.  The first time he tried to say Grandma.  Oh my heart did cart wheels.  Later we were playing on the bed while waiting for his Mommy to come home and he dropped on the pillow, looking at me he said, "I love you."  Clear as day.  This is the first time he has said this.  When Todd told his Mommy, I played it down stating he said it to the pillow because I saw the hurt in her face.  I know she wants to be the first person he says it to.  I totally understand and will protect her and work on Taj saying it to Mommy first. To me it is no competition.  His Mommy is HIS first love.  You can see it in his face when he lights up when she comes home.  I will just share my simple joy here.  I just love that little guy.

31 Days of Simple Joy~ Day 14

Simple Joy cuddle time.  I love to cuddle.  Ethan used to be my snuggle bug, since he turned 13 I am lucky if I ever get a kiss from the kid.  Todd warned me when we first started to date that he is not a cuddler.  I just told him well that will be a bit of a problem because I am a cuddler, so he allowed five minutes each night at the beginning to cuddle before we fell asleep.  Now, he is a major cuddler and loves to cuddle before we sleep and when we watch TV. sometimes.  My favorite is when we are laying in bed watching a movie and he snuggles up behind me and places his arm around me.  This makes me feel warm in my heart just typing this.  As I have mentioned before... I am totally in love with my husband.

Mini Tacos

I am so addicted to Pinterest.  I found this recipe for Mini Tacos there and knew I was going to have to make it for one of the football game afternoons.
Click here for the recipe or you can go to my tab "Recipes" near the top.

I hope you enjoy them as much as we did.

Sunday's Song

I love this duo.  I fell in love with their song Kingdom Come which was in the movie The Hunger Games.  They have a simple voices that blend well with one another.  Usually accompanied with an acoustic guitar and occasionally a keyboard and drum.  I watched several of their videos trying to chose just one for today's post.  I loved watching them perform with one another.   Enjoy!

Gardening 101 ~ 2012 Back Yard Garden

I just realized I have never had a dedicated post regarding our backyard garden.  I thought today would be a great time to do so and it will also be my 31 Days of Simple Joy.

We started our raised bed gardening four summer's ago and it was 8x16 feet.  We were very pleased with it.
Our first raised bed garden
The following summer we increased the garden to 16x24 feet and added four tractor tires to garden as well.  This is what this year's looked like.
2012 garden

We always plant radishes and they are also one of our first crops of the season. Peas grow best when it is cooler, so here in Iowa peas are one of the first crops to harvest for us.

This year's peas were successful.

Some of our plants we plant from seed in the soil; they are: green beans, sugar snap peas, cucumbers, radish, carrots, zucchini, and any type of squash we plant.  The other plants we try to start from seeds indoors or we buy the plants.  This year we found most of our plants at Theisens Farm and Fleet.  They also had the best yields.  If we did not purchase the plants from Theisens the plants came from either Wal-Mart or Menards.  In our back yard garden we planted: Roma tomatoes, beef stead tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, egg plant, broccoli, cauliflower, celery (which was eaten by the rabbits), cabbage, tomatillos, onions,  grape tomatoes, patio tomatoes, carrots, green peppers, banana peppers, and hot peppers.

Above: tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, and green beans.

Above:  foreground are peppers and egg plants, the back several rows are tomato plants

This year Iowa had a drought; however, we made sure our garden was watered because of our irrigation system, the soaker hose.  This seemed to help our garden but the hot days took a toll on the green beans. This was our first year of not having a very good season for green beans.  Our tomatoes came through with a abundance as well as the egg plant, which was our first year of growing.  All of our peppers were successful this year.  The broccoli and cabbage was outstanding.  The tomatillos over took one end of our garden.  We will have to plan differently for the plant if we chose to plant again.  The onions did not get enough water in the tires.  This was our first year planting them in the tires.  I do not think we will do that again.  The past few summers our cucumbers have not been very successful due to the cucumber beetles.  We are going to research this more this coming winter to see what we can do to prevent them.  Over all, we had a successful year of gardening.  I am still canning and freezing.  Once I have everything done, I will post exactly what our gardening this summer provided to us.

31 Days of Simple Joy~ Day 12

A Simple Joy to me is holding a baby.  I think holding a baby is so joyful.  I love the way they smell (with exception when the diaper is dirty); I love they way their little mouths move.  I love the way they coo.  I love the way the little tiny fingers wrap around your one finger.  I feel such at peace when I am holding a baby.  This is such a joy for me, and a bonus, once my joy has been filled, I can hand over this wonderful baby to the parent now without any yearning of having one.

Friday Confessional

Photobucket

It is Friday and that means Confessional time once again.

I confess...

I really was hoping, no praying this Ketogenic diet was going to work for my niece.  The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet that in medicine is used primarily to treat difficult-to-control (refractory) epilepsy in children.

I confess...

Miranda will be 4 next month and she really has not had much quality of life as of yet.  We all were hoping, no praying this diet would work and slow her seizures down.  If this diet worked then the medicine which is delaying her talking, her interacting, would be lighter dose if any.

I confess...

It was scary knowing she was going to have to be in the hospital for the first week of this diet because it is very dangerous and can be life threatening switch.

I confess...

My heart felt a tug when my Mom told me that they had to stop the diet.  It was not going to work.  Her keytones were horrible.  Her glucose nearly bottomed out.  They are now testing to see if she is hypoglycemic and they are testing her for some other genetic disorder.  We are not any further then we were before.  They are changing her meds, a type which is suppose to help the type of seizure that come in clusters.  This is what she is beginning to get now.  She has been going to the ER every week due to these seizures, 8 in 6 hours.

I confess...

I worry about her so much, not only her but also her sisters.  One is in third grade the other in first grade.  These little girls adore their sister and worry so much about her.  Children their age should not worry like this.

I confess...

I wish I had the power to help Miranda.

I am sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but this is my confessions this week.  What do you have to confess about?  Aubrey for High-Heeled Love is hosting Friday Confessionals for Mamarazzi while she is on a break.  Come check her blog out and join the fun.

31 Days of Simple Joy ~ Day 11

My quilt my mother made for me.  I love snuggling up inside it, knowing it was made out of love for me.  It has not aged very well, she used material that was not meant to be made into quilting squares.  This was her first quilt she made; it is definitely tattered and torn.  When she provided a safe haven for my boys and I, she thought she was doing me a favor while I was at work one night and washed my bedding for me.  I was fighting severe depression then and she definitely mother me.  She washed my quilt with this very dark blue blanket which bled all over my quilt.  She felt guilty but I told her not to worry.  It just a representation of her love for me.  This quilt is so full of Simple Joy!

31 Days of Simple Joy~ Day 10

Simple Joy is making people I love happy.
Just look at these cute little cup cakes I bought at work for a fund raiser for United Way.
Now look at the pleasure it gave the three youngest men in my life.

As I stated in my first sentence... Simple Joy.
