Friday Confessional

It's that time of week for Friday Confessional. Please join Mamarazzi and Glamazon for confession!

I confess...

Wednesday I was suppose to work 10-7.  I had to get up my regular time because I take two of my boys to school.  When I came home from dropping them off, I decided to fold my whites.   While I was folding my whites, I noticed that every single underwear that I own has holes in them, except for one and they are my white granny panties that are for those special occasion once a month.

I confess...

I thought to myself after the realization that I must get new underwear this weekend because I thought of what my Mother always said to us girls..."Make sure you wear your good underwear without holes.  You never know if you have to go to the emergency."

I confess...

3 hours later when I was heading towards the emergency room, I wished I had the granny panties on.  How embarrassing it was when the nurse had to put all those electrodes on me for the EKG and I had two huge holes in my underwear by the waist band.

I confess...

Naturally I tried to make it funny and mumbled something like, "Man, I should have listened to my mother and wore the underwear with no holes."  Immediately both nurses laughed.

I confess...

Even at the age of 44 you should listen to your mother still.   So bloggy friends, make sure you wear your underwear without holes in them.

Westward Pioneer Ho

I love doing crafts.  I love working on Art Projects.  I love doing something fun with my boys.  When I get to do both I feel like I have hit the Jack Pot!  Ethan and Noah have gone through the Iowa City School District for Elementary where Matthew and Joshua went through the Des Moines School District for Elementary. Each school district does fun things or units.  Des Moines for 3rd graders did a wonderful unit on the city they live in.  I am sure Iowa City does as well but the project for 3rd grade in Des Moines was a fun one and can be a creative one.  My older boys (Matthew and Joshua) both did an 'ABC Book of Des Moines'  We sat down and found interesting places or photo opportunities of Des Moines for each letter of the alphabet.  I drove them around the city where they took a picture of the building/monument and then we had the pictures printed where they basically scrapped book a page for each letter.  I wish I was able to grab those books when I left their father, it would have been great keepsake for them.

The 5th graders in Iowa City do a Western Frontier project.  My younger two enjoy crafting more then my older two did, so I had a lot of fun with Ethan.  Click here to see his final project.  He could not make up his mind between a log cabin or a covered wagon, so we did both.  Noah wanted to make a tee pee model of course I my creative mind would not just stop with the idea of a stand alone tee pee.  I gave Noah my suggestions and he loved it.  This would be a fun I'm bored Mom project for children as well.

Cardboard box lid (or any type of thick cardboard) ~ I used a paper box from work.
Green felt squares ~ I used 2  -- $0.20 each at Wal-Mart
5 wooden stirrers from work (you can use small dowels- Wal-Mart had 15 for $2.89)
1 bottle of blue glitter glue ~ $1.89 at Wal-Mart
1 bottle of Aileen's Tacky Glue ~ $2.49 at Wal-Mart
Hot glue gun ~ previously have
Small decorative pebbles (you could use sand as well) ~ I had a big bag that I bought to place around my decorative candles, I used the left over.
1 package of 20 colors soft modeling clay ~ $1.89 at Wal-Mart
1 small piece of fabric that will be your tee pee.  You can also use brown paper bag.

I started off with telling Noah to place a layer of tacky glue covering the top of the lid.  He then placed the green felt squares.   He then pointed out where he wanted to have his river run.  The tacky glue was kind of hard to squeeze, so I put the glue where he wanted it and then he placed the small decorative pebbles down.  We then let that sit for awhile and started to make the Indians.  I made one and he watched.  He then made 4 others minus the hair, he was not quite sure on how to make it, so I made the hair and the facial expressions.
The next day he decorated his tee pee and then we constructed it.  You will need to take 3 rods together.  You need some yarn or string and tie one end to one dowel.  Then you just weave the yarn around in between the stick almost like a figure 8 but with one extra loop, finally you tie it together.  You should do this about 1/2 inch from the top of your dowels.  Make your tri-pod with the sticks and glue the fabric around.  I then cut the hole where his door was drawn.  I then hot glued his tee pee in place.
I worked on his idea for the hide, tannery while he made a little Indian guy to do the tanning.   He wanted a fire, so he created that as well.  I made a little fish for the river.
Next we had to make the river.  Noah took the blue glitter glue and squeezed it over the pebbles that were glued the day prior.  Wah La... instant water flowing down the river now.  I then glued the Indians where he wanted as well as any other prop.
I love it!  He was so cute, I typed up his label and he told me I missed something, he then hand wrote under his name, with help by Mom.  What a sweetie!  He needed 20 points on his project to pass.  He ended up with 50 points and it is on display in the library.   His teacher told him that he has never seen someone so detailed with the modeling clay before and that he did a very good job.  He was just beaming when he shared this with me.

Friday Confessional

It's that time of week for Friday Confessional. Please join Mamarazzi and Glamazon for confession!

I confess...

I am feeling very stressed with everything that I need to get done before Joshua's graduation.  I only have 3 full weekends left to dedicate myself to getting things ready around the house.

I confess...

I'm feeling a little guilty about getting away this weekend when my living room is a mess and needs to be finished painting  but...

I also confess...

I am really WANTING this get away at the same time.  I am being torn apart but we have the room so I am still going.

I confess...

I will not be as active next week on my blog because I need to make up time with scanning photos and working on the slide show.  My normal time that I have for blogging will be doing this beautiful project for my son.

I confess...

I still will try to sneak on while at work.  LOL and read but I will not be able to post much.

I confess...

I really enjoyed the VLOG Monthly.  I hate the way I look and hope that this will be a motivator for me.  I love the fact that you all found it funny and who knows where I will be next time.  LOL
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying

Iowa City, City High School’s Spring Musical this year was How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. Joshua after a few practices expressed that this was going to be better then any musical he has participated in. I thought to myself no way could this beat last year’s The Wizard of Oz. It was the best high school production I have ever seen. The special effects still floor me with the level of the show. I asked if they were going to have outstanding special effects again, he answered not really. Well I thought, then how can it be better? I mean we are talking about The Wizard of Oz a classic and they did an outstanding job. Seriously better? I have never even heard of this musical.

I did some research on this musical after the production curious why I have never heard of it before, not that I am an expert at musicals but I was curious as to why it was never mentioned for awards. I think it had to do with the fact it did win awards but before I was born. This show won 7 Tony Awards in 1961 and Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1962. 1995 there was a remake as well as 50th Anniversary re-opening last month.

Joshua is in front on the far left.
Joshua was right yet wrong. You just can not compare this to a classic that I grew up with. I love The Wizard of Oz, maybe I am just bias and the special effects were outstanding and I still consider this the best high school production I have ever been too. Yet this year’s musical was actually a great musical. I could even say it was one of the best. The dance choreography was superb, the stage was outstanding. It looked like it had elevators that worked. The songs were great and comical. This musical had a lot of humor in it and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Joshua was part of the chorus as well as had an important character in the last act. He was Mr. Wallie Womper and he had a thick dialect. Once again City High did an outstanding job. I will miss going to see the productions that my children participate in high school, with this being Joshua’s senior year. I will not miss the hectic schedule the rehearsals created. Ethan and Noah have never shown any interest in drama like Joshua has.

Here Joshua is in the middle.
The employees are standing line for coffee

Here the employees just found out there isn't any more coffee.
I loved this number, how they shook from frustration of no coffee.

This picture is during one of Joshua's favorite songs and dance.
They are singing about how the secretaries are not toys.
A nice shot of the upper stage they created.
Joshua was Mr. Wallie Womper gray haired man with a moustache.
Right after his solo part of this song.
Mr Wallie Womper married the sexy bimbo secretary.
When she spoke and smiled I swear she looked like Cyndi Lauper.

Below is a little recording of one of the dance numbers.  I missed Joshua's solo part of this song.

Great Job City High.  Congratulations Joshua and what a wonderful way to end your high school drama!

Tackle it Tuesday

What a busy week, yet I feel like I did not do enough. I am definitely feeling the pressure of Joshua’s Graduation. I will be out of town this weekend and one weekend in May, thus leaving me only 3 full weekends to tackle everything. We just picked up a new computer so tonight I will look to see if my husband WAS able to move all of my photos to the external hard drive. My fingers are cross that everything went well and I did not lose them. Next week’s Tackle project will to complete Joshua’s Open House Graduation and order them, to finish painting the main living room’s walls, and to clean all the vents as well as work on scanning more photos.

As I stated I feel like I did not get enough done now that I am actually posting what I tackled. I did tackle the post on our stairway and the railing. I can not believe how nice they look. I typically dust them but I used these Pledge wipes for the first time and will for now on. I ended up using 6 wipes and they look so nice now. We tackled painting the largest wall space in our main living room. Two coats of paint went on that wall. Moving the Entertainment Center was a HUGE tackle. I had to recruit my oldest son to assist. According to my husband it is as heavy as the piano. I think I will take his word. Other then my day to day Mother jobs, these are the only extras that I tackled this week.

I guess the biggest tackling job I did last week was manage to make it through last week.

1st Quarter Check Up

 RE-POST from December

Quarterly check up

2011 To Do List

The New Year is approaching. I am not one for New Year's Resolutions, well not any more. When I was younger I would have the most common ones, to work out more, to lose weight, and to stop biting my nails. I typically do not make it past 2 weeks. For the most part I do not bite my nails unless I am very bored or stressed. I never follow through with resolutions.

No New Year's Resolutions for me. No way, no how. I do believe in "To Do List". I feel like I accomplish more with a "To Do List". I also get some sort of satisfaction when I look at the list and I can take my blue medium point ink pen and cross it off the list. It is such a conquering feeling of power. So let's take a look at my list. I plan to come back to this blog every now and then and actually cross it off on this post as well. I guess putting it out here will make me more accountable as well and give me even more of satisfaction to share with the entire blog world my achievements.

To Do List ~ 2011 Style

  1. To become healthier. Let's face it if I do not I know I am shortening my life. I have children who need me, I have soon to be grandchildren I want to see, I just want to enjoy life plain and simple. I know I am not invincible, we all will die some day, but I need to take care of myself. I plan to watch my sodium intake once again. Try to move more as long as the knee continues to let me. The weight I will lose will also help my knee, my high blood pressure, and possibly rid the borderline diabetes. I'm not going to say "I'm going to lose XX amount of weight by XX date. It does not work that way for me. Plain and simple, I need to become healthier.  Well to date I have only lost 5 lbs.  This is not off to a good start.  Pressure is still high.  Hmmm...I will have to work hard on this the second half of the year because I will not have time to work out as needed the next couple of months.
  2. Organization. I am going to check this off once I have all of my closets organized, kitchen cupboards organized, and the shed. I see Craig List in my future for some things in the shed, if not then they will be donated. This house is packed to the gills now with so many boom-a-rangs flying back at us.  Well I am not any further then the end of January.  The kitchen make-over made me fall behind here.
  3. To take my finances by the horn. I am going to get all the medical bills paid off and the one last credit card that haunts me previous to moving to Iowa City. I want this in the worse way. I want to join checking accounts with my husband.  Hmmm...another stand still so far.  Second part of the year will be better for me after graduation is finally over.
  4. Joining Accounts leads me to the next thing on my list. Combine our car insurance. It's silly we both have our own coverage right now. I think it only makes sense to have one car insurance carrier.  Yep!   Another Goose Egg but my goal for this was September back then, so I am not worried about it yet.
  5. To actively find another job. I am praying the economy is good enough for me to cross this one of my list. I just want to have a "college level paying job". I have never had this strong of an urge until my 25th high school reunion. I feel as a career person I have failed. Do not take me wrong, I am a hard worker and succeed in that way, I just think I have failed with having a degree and working entry level positions. I want to have a savings. I want to be able to afford summer clothing or school clothes and not be paying for it 2 months later with my budget.  Well that ain't happin' now after being on a verbal.  We will see what the next 6 months bring.
  6. Paint the inside of the house. Oh, this has been on my list for 2 years and the only thing I have not crossed off. This year will be my year.  Kitchen and Foyer/Hallway are done.
  7. Continue with our dance lessons. What more can I say. I love it. I love spending the time with Todd. I love getting out and doing something enjoyable. I love working out and having fun as I am working out.  Completed the series.  We are looking into signing up for something else.
Well that is it! I know it is not a long list, nor anything exciting for others but it will make me happy once I cross off all 6 items. Do you have any New Year's Resolutions or To Do List?

Oh and if you are reading and enjoy what you see here. Please feel free to follow me. I am thrilled I have someone reading my blogs from Russia Weekly. I think it is totally neat.

After doing my quarterly review, I do not think I did well the first quarter.  Time to pick up some pace to get caught up some by the next quarter check up.

Tackle It Tuesday

This weeks Tackle is our tiny foyer and hallway into our main living room.  This is the before picture.  Yes, that is a patch job.  Not the best patch job but it was a major one my husband had to do.  Emily nearly 4 1/2 years ago put her foot right through the wall.  It was at her Sweet Sixteen Birthday Party and she was showing off for friends how when she was younger she would hold on to the spindles on the stairway and walk up the wall.  Only she was not that tiny little girl any longer and when she started to walk up the wall, her size 8 foot went through the plaster.  We even had to take her to the ER to have x-rays poor girl.  We lived with a pizza box lid taped to cover the hold for about a year and a half until Matthew's graduation.  Then I begged to have it repaired since we were going to have people coming to our house.  I love my husband but then he did not follow through with things, so instead of painting the entire wall white, he only painted the patch job, thus the two tone white wall we also had a stain just recently from one of the air fresheners, of course no one did it.

I purchased the wall paint over a year ago for my main living room.  When we purchased the flooring for the kitchen, we purchased additional to get rid of the old gross white, never comes clean linoleum.  Here is our tackle picture.  The walls have been painted and the floor is in place. now we need to add the trim.  I just love it.  Now I need to tackle those spindles.  Boy are they dirty!

I also have been tackling the UBP11!!!! So Many Blogs So Many New Friends!

ABC of Jolene

A. Age: 44

B. Bed size: King

C. Chore you dislike: laundry and doing any type of work that capable people living in our house should do.  I am the Mom of the house that works 8 hours/a work day, not the servant.

D. Dogs: We have none at this time.  The boys and I had one but he became ill.  His name was Jordan and he was a schnauzer.

E. Essential start to your day:  Hitting my snooze button at least 3 times.

F. Favorite color: Blue and Red

G. Gold or silver: I love the way white gold looks with diamonds but I own yellow gold.

H. Height: 5'4" ... alright truth be known I am 5' 3 ¾"  I just add the last ¼" when I tell people how tall I am, especially when I have three sons that are way taller then I am.  My 14 year old is the tallest so far; he is taller then the nearly 18 year old and nearly 21 year old.  The top of my head reaches their nose, but I have the 11 year old beat by a full head still.

I. Instruments you play(ed): piano and briefly the guitar (like 2 months maybe)

J. Job title: Call Center Representative - DEA Implementation Coordinator.  I service (well for now, there is talk that our Call Center will be shut down due to the economy.) Dependent Eligibility Audits (DEA) and build the intranet sites for each of our clients to assist my colleagues to answer incoming calls.  We also are an extension to Human Resources for several mid size clients as well, assisting with benefits and enrollment issues.  We used to service self funded medical insurance as well as flexible spending but due to Health Care Reform we no longer service this product reducing our call volume tremendously, thus the rumor of shutting us down.  I also wrote and maintain our department manual (online) as well as train in our department.  I am the Jack of all trades and the guru as you could say in our department, but that does not make me safe for a job.  Everyone is replaceable.

K. Kids: Matthew (who will be 21 in May), Joshua (who will be 18), Ethan 14, Noah 11.   Step daughters, Kera (23) and Emily (20).  3 cats - Tilly (love her to pieces and one of my best friends), Cali (our beautiful one), and Millie (who is actually Kera's but she doesn't take care of her.)  **special note:  I hate the word step but only refer to them as step per their wish.  Kera will be having our first grandchild in July and the step will not be included with the grandchild.  To me "step" is a four letter word, we are family.  A blended one but family, however I will respect their wish.**

L. Live: Iowa...yes we have all 4 seasons and I hate Winter.  The older I get the more I hate Winter.

M. Most favoritest thing: Relaxing with my family, Laughing, and Dancing with my Prince Charming.

N. Nicknames: Jo

O. Overnight hospital stays: Other then birth of my four children, Overnight when I had my tonsils out back when I was 5 years old and 6 days when I had a severe kidney infection.  My fever spiked to 110 degrees and they put me in an ice bath to lower it quickly.

P. Pet peeves: People who argue with you because they do not want to provide the proper documents required for the audit of their dependent, such as the tax form that they can black out social security numbers and financial information.  All we look at is that it is the first page of the form, the names and that married filing jointly or separately is marked.  You would be surprised how many people file their taxes incorrectly to get more back.  They are cheating the government and then want me to feel sorry for them because they do not have the acceptable proof.  Cheaters never win!

Q. Quote from a movie: I love it when my husband quotes (it is his accent):
"I'm your Huckleberry" from Tombstone.
"You'll get yours Black Bart" from A Christmas Story
Any quote he repeats from Brad Pitt's character in Inglorious Basterds.  Joshua does a great job quoting from this movie as well.

R. Righty or lefty: righty but during the Summer of 7th and 8th grade I tried desperately to become a lefty to be like Paul McCartney. he he he... silly girl.

S. Siblings: Lisa, Amy, and Katie.  In-Laws Michele (absolutely love her) and ex-in-laws that are still in my life due to my boys who mean a lot to me as well, Rhonda, Dave, and Tom.

T. Time you wake up: I have difficulties falling asleep or staying asleep at times.  Typically I shoot for 6:15 am M-F.  The garage door opening wakes me on the weekends around 7:15 am when my husband comes home from work.

U. Underwear: Yes, but they are not butt floss type.

V. Vegetables you don't like: Canned spinach, anything slimy.

W. What makes you run late: Depends on the day, sometimes my waking habits other my son's waking habits.

X. X-rays you've had: Many ankle x-rays, chest, kidneys, knees.  Are we talking more high tech or just plain x-rays?

Y. Yummy food you make: Depends on who you ask.  Any more they may say I do not salt the food enough because unless it absolutely needs it I have eliminated it due to my high blood pressure.  The eaters can add it if needed.  A favorite in my house is Taco Bake and anything sweet.

Z. Zoo animal favorites: Bears.  I love to snuggle with my big bear (hubby), he is my woobie, and so all bears to me look cuddly.

Confessions of a Wrong Hair Cut

It has been more then 12 weeks since I have had my last hair cut.  My hair looked horrible, bangs not doing anything near what I wanted.   The past few weeks grey hair seemed to pop from no where.  I do not have the best self esteem, I am slowly working on it.   In 8 weeks my son Joshua will graduate.  I will see many of my ex's side of the family.  Most are cool, but my ex and his wife, mainly his wife judge everything about me. The following week will be Kera's baby shower.  My husband's ex judges me.  Why do I care?  I do not know, it is just part of my nature.  I want people's approval.  Now I know this is not possible all the time but I do not want to give a reason to be judged.

Last Summer I told myself I was not going to color my hair until it is too grey and I can not handle it.  I thought to myself, I am not a grandma yet and do not want to look like one.  Okay, this July I will be one but I still am not ready to look like one.  It is growing in clumps so I made my mind up to color and maybe get some highlights.  I am not going to color it myself this time.  It is time to pamper myself a little and this will be one that I do for myself.  I planned on getting this in 6 weeks, two weeks prior to the graduation.

As I stated I needed a cut, so with the stressful week I had, I thought I deserved this and it will help my self esteem some.  I went to the salon and told the lady, I wanted a long shag, where I can flip the ends if I want to.  I wanted it to be my shoulder length.  This is what I wanted, minus the color.  Only my bangs needed cut as well.  This is a little longer then I asked for as well.  I do not think the lady listened at all.  I definitely do not have a shag.  She cut it a lot shorter then my shoulders.  I have cried and cried off and on all afternoon.  I know it is only hair.  I know it will grow back.  My hair looks like my mom's hair style.  I do not even like her hair style.  I think she has an old woman hair style and she is not an old woman in my opinion and the grey streaks I have does not help one bit.  I have no idea what it is going to look like in 8 weeks.  The growing out stages are always crappy looking.  I do not want short hair. Now I am stuck with it.  I can not say it is a bad hair cut, because it is not, it is just NOT what I wanted.  It is a Wrong Hair Cut.  I can not even take a picture of myself with it right now.  I did my VLOG this evening to post on the 5th.  Stop by and check out the mess.  I could not even concentrate on what I was going to say because of how upset I am over this.  Trust me, typically I am not vain at all but for some reason this is just upsetting me to the max.

2011 Ultimate Blog Party

Hi everyone!  My name is Jolene and I am fairly new with the blogging community.  I love meeting people and I am anxious to gain more blogging friends.   It's sad I have more friends through the Internet then I do where I live now.  I moved 6 years ago and I find it is hard to make friends here.  I was very lonely until I started making friends or keeping in touch with friends through the Internet.  If you want to get to know more about me please go to the top or click here to read more about me. I'm still trying to figure out how to comment to people via email.

I have a wonderful husband that was truly a gift from God.  He is my second husband and boy I did it right this time!  I have 4 boys from my first marriage, who I adore and two step-daughters.  The oldest step-daughter and I are close now and she is going to be having our first grandchild due July 4th.  If you want to know more about them please read about my family at the top.

I enjoy gardening and my husband and I take Ballroom/Social Dancing classes.  I love doing crafts/art but lost that part of me for years.  I am starting to make time to do this again and plan to blog about them as well.  Here is a blog that I made about the plates I decorated for my kitchen.  Inspired Wall Display

I blog about what is going on in my life.  Life can be stressful at times and with the different phases our children are in some give us a little more day to day challenges then others.  One of my favorite blogs I wrote about a challenging time was  I Feel Like A Dog Chasing My Tail.

My blog contains some recipes, poems, and average photos I have taken.  I started blogging here for something my boys could refer to when needed this is why I am adding the photos.  This may have been my initial reason but I now blog for the community as well.  I love reading/following people.  I participate with a few Meme: Tackle It Tuesday, Wordless Wednesday, Confessional Friday.  As well as do my own for Wednesday Woo Hoos and an occasional Monday Moan  (I think I will add some linky to them in case anyone else wants to join in)  My favorite Monday Moan was my first one.  It was during this time frame that I wanted to start blogging for my boys.

Right now life is very stressful for me, I try to find humor in life to get me through it, occasionally I will vent, sorry I just need to put it out there from time to time.

I look forward to the Blog Party and getting to know more of you as well as hope more of you will want to follow me as well.  I'm going to try my best to follow along with Twitter, but I just don't understand it.  I found the party but not sure how to interact on it with everyone.  My user name is 'sincekinder' I would enjoy winning some of the prices. I am very interested in the birdhouse one.

Here is to all of us Partying in 2011!  Woo Hoo!!!

He Loves Me
