Friday Confessional

 photo HighHeeledLove_zpsbbcc137c.jpg

It is Friday and I am going to confess. The party over at High-Heeled Love hosted by the wonderful Aubrey.

I confess...

It has been a different week for me. A little stressed from families health and getting a birthday party ready. I have given myself a kidney infection, the party is not as stressful as the others.

I confess...

I am looking forward to making the centerpieces tonight for the party.  Art is always therapy for me.

I confess...

I cried and cried after I got off the phone with my Dad the other night. I lied to him on the phone because I could not come out and say it. He has had several appointments this week. Liver specialist...things are maintaining, Chemo doctor...things are maintaining, and his regular doctor for a yearly physical. He told his regular doctor he was sorry he does not see her very often, only one time a year basically. She told him no, do not be sorry because he has enough wrong with him.  She also gave him a big hug before he left and the nurse cried as she hugged him too. He asked me why I thought they hugged him this time.  I did not have the heart to tell him because most likely you will not have another yearly physical. They were saying good-bye to you. I just told him I do not know.

I confess...

That hit me like a ton of bricks. I know he is not going to make it.  He has had this now for nearly 2 years. 6 months ago he was given 6 months. In February the tumor tripled in size. I guess it is hard because he says he is not in pain and he has his full quality of life still. (I am very thankful for this.) The doctor must have seen something we are not.

I confess...

Little Miranda came home from the hospital for one day Wednesday. It was her sister's birthday too. On Thursday, she had a different seizure and was rushed to the hospital once more. Her sugar levels were at 59. They were at 375 last Friday and kept her in the hospital for 5 days. I am not sure if she is diabetic now on top of all her other health issues as well. If she is I am not sure how they will manage this since she can not eat.  She gets her nutrition from liquid through the g-tube inserted near her stomach.

I confess...

I want to stay home today because I want to clean and craft. My kidney is hurting but I am going to work.  I do not want to miss when I have only been there nearly 60 days.

I confess...

I am sorry this post is gloomy......... oh and I need to leave early because several roads are closed due to flooding. The University and all the buildings and home which recovered the devastating floods in 2008 are now in jeopardy again.  I guess the 500 year floods really is not 500 years because this is will be the 3rd 500 year flood I have seen in 20 years.  The month of May we have had the most rain in 141 years.  I guess we are not definitely in a drought any more like we were suffering the past two summers.  Did I mention the birthday party is suppose to be in our back yard? Now you can see why I need some Art therapy.

Not So Happy List

It has been raining and raining here.  I think it has something to do with my mood and feelings right now.  As a mother, you want the best for your kids.  It is difficult seeing them fail at things but I know it is part of growing up.  Some things are costly mistakes too.

On top of it all, my poor little niece has been in the hospital since Friday night.  She was suppose to head to the May Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for more genetic testing, but she was rather dehydrated and my sister took her to the ER in Des Moines instead.  She was keeping her liquid food down.  She is fed from a G-Tube still.  This was confusing my sister why she was so dehydrated.  After three days of having sugar levels at 375, they decided to put her on insulin.  She is still at the hospital.  Please send prayers and positive vibes for her.  She needs a break.

Her sisters (8 and 6 years old) placed a status on their facebook (My sister's page) stating their name and please come home Miranda.  We love you and miss you.  The girls miss their Mom too.  My heart is aching right now for her.

I'm Getting A Face Lift

Well not me literally but my blog is getting a face lift and I hope the last one.  I had a few people mention to me how out dated my picture was in my header. The picture of the children was nearly five years old.  Ethan is now taller than Matthew and Joshua.  The baby, Noah is taller than Emily.  It was also brought to my attention how much Taj has changed.   This will be the fourth change in three years.  In the beginning my header started with this one.

Then Taj was born and about nine months later, I knew I had to count him as one of my many blessings.

 photo blog2.jpg
I was very happy with this one but then Taj grew and I kept look at it, the children could not be centered in the middle frame it it bugged me.  I also thought I wanted to include my gardening some how, thus this one was born.

Untitled photo Untitled-9.jpg

This one made me very happy and I was content.  I loved how it represented me, but my butterfly garden pictures was not the best.  As our family grows, I do not want to keep changing my header, with that said, I decided to go with a look of no family picture avoiding this problem in the future.  At first I thought about just updating the picture of the children and grandson but then I remember how much work it took to align it exactly like I wanted.  I also thought, Noah is not done growing, nor Taj and someday there will be husbands and wives and more grandchildren, so instead I went with one of my favorite garden pictures I took this year.  I also went with colors which were more me as well.  Blue is my ultimate favorite color and a close second would be Red and then Pink.  I am nearly done.  Here was my second about me.

 photo welcome.jpg
I like the style of the wording but the picture was taken when I having fun with my phone camera one morning. I only kept it for awhile and then went with the Blogger version from the gadget section.  I am still not happy with this section on my blog and will change it when I figure out how.  I just want to make my about me section on the right to be one of those tab type and I am having just a little bit of difficulty with it. If one day it appears, you will know I was successful with figuring out how.   Oh, I still need to update my button as well.  I never did that the last time.  This time I want to and this will be my look, no more changes.  Well at least I hope no more.

Now that I am thinking I should have waited to do this until tomorrow.  May 28, 2010 was my first post on With A Little Help From My Friends.

Sunday's Song

This is one of my top 20 favorite songs of all time. I love the original version but Michael W. Smith hits it out of the park as well.  Enjoy!

I am linking up to Miss Angie's weekly party over at My So Called Chaos.   If you have not visited her yet you should.  She has so much energy.

Literary Friday

 photo ArtatHomeButton_zps18898da7.jpg

Ricki Jill from Art @ Home host Literary Friday.  Come check her out!

This book took me longer than it should have to complete.  I kept getting mad every time I had to put it down.  I started to read it when I started my new job.  Due to all the training and studying, I could only pick it up at lunch time or during breaks while others finished their test.  It was a great book and I want everyone I know reading this book.  I just loved it!  I can see why it has won some awards and it was the #1 paperback trade fiction seller on the New York Times best sellers list from June 2008 to early 2010.

The Shack by William P. Young is a Christian novel.  It is a book about a father, Mackenzie Philips (Mack) who is having difficulties overcoming the death of his daughter.  Four years prior Mack took three of his five children camping.  He had to leave his youngest daughter to the need of his other two children.  The canoe they were in tipped and his son was drowning.  After the emotions and concerns regarding his two in the lake he realizes his youngest was left behind at the camp site and she is missing.  A serial killer stole her and killed her, unfortunately Mack and his wife Nan never had the proper good-bye for their sweet little girl because the body was never recovered.  Mack could not understand why God let this happen.  He also blamed his self.  At the beginning of the book Mack receives a note in his mailbox telling him to meet him at the Shack and it is signed by Papa.  Papa is what Nan calls God.  The shack is the place where his little girls bloody torn dress was found.  Mack ends up going to the shack alone and leaves with so many answers and his life being altered once again.  Was it God who sent the note?  Was it Nan trying to save him?  Or could it be the Little Lady Bug serial killer?  I don't want to say too much because the author has requested his readers not too give too much away.

This book is definitely worth owning.  I have it both paperback and on my Nook.

Sesame Street Live

The day finally came.  We took off after breakfast and headed to Des Moines where Sesame Street Live would be performing.  This is a two hour drive one way.  I sat in back with Taj.

I packed our lap top with the Toy Story video.  I made sure it was fully charged.  We were near the end when Windows decided to update and shut everything down.  Taj became a little bored.
So I started to talk about the show and played with him with his Elmo and Cookie Monster.
We visited my Mom for only 20 minutes and changed his clothes for the show.  The show was to begin during Taj's typical nap time.  He fell asleep as soon as we pulled out of my Mom's drive way.  He slept in Papa's arms while we ordered lunch and juggled everything to our seat.  5th Row on the floor.  He slept all the way up to the moment we sat him on his seat.  He was dazed and confused.  He did not know exactly what was going on. Then Bert and Ernie came out talking about the letter of the day and the number of the day.  He figured out something was going on
The total impact of it all did not happen until Elmo came onto stage.
This moment forward during the first half of the show, this child stood the entire time on his seat.  He was dancing, cheering, singing, and screaming.  It was the mini version of all the teen girls watching The Beatles.

He became Cookie Monster every time he saw him.  His little fingers flying near his mouth going... "Nom Nom Nom Nom."
He would cry out the characters names when they spoke... Elmo... Big Bird...
Oh my!  When Elmo's World theme song began, the kid went crazy!
He giggled and giggled.  He pointed and pointed when Mr. Noodle's other brother Mr. Noodle came out of the shade, however he cried when Mr. Noodle's other brother Mr. Noodle left.
After Elmo's World it was time for intermission.  Taj was getting a little tired and he wanted up on stage with Sesame Street in the worse way.  He wanted to play with Elmo but then he saw the balloons.
Being the spoiled grandson he is (he he he) Todd sent me up to buy one for him.  We also moved back 2 rows because no one was sitting behind us.  We wanted to be near the center aisle because the characters were going off stage and going up the middle to shake the kids hands and we wanted Taj to experience it too.
The show started back up and this guy... Honker.  Well he came out from the back and he came up to Taj and touched him.  He scared the crap out of him.  Taj started to cry.  Honker felt bad and started to rub his back.  Taj then scrammed to Todd's arms.  Poor Honker.

Taj bounced back quickly, watching the characters dance on stage.  He still wanted to go up and play with Elmo.
He loved it when Oscar finally made an appearance.
(This one is for you Ricki Jill)

He counted with the count and both Todd and Taj laughed like he did too when the time came for the count to Mawhahahaha.  (Seriously, he can count to 10 without making any mistakes and he will be only two in about 3 weeks.)

As the characters headed down the stage and towards the audience, I would put down my cameras (yes two cameras...when all was said and done I took 210 pictures.) and would grab Taj and put him on my lap near the center, I would say in his ear "Look here comes Abby Cadabby Taj!"  He seemed not to be afraid if I pointed the character out and was coming towards us.  He reached out to shake Abby's hand.  Then "Here comes Zoey, Taj!"  He was excited and shook Zoey's hand.  While Zoey was still near us, Taj spotted Elmo.  I had to hold on tight to him because he was trying to jump off my lap to run to Elmo.  Todd said his eye lit up and a huge smile of anticipation, Elmo was coming.  However, Elmo had to turn around just two rows ahead of us to go back to stage.  Taj cried out "Elmo!  Elmo!  Elmo!"  Zoey noticed this and gave his little head a rub and then she bent down to hug him.  Taj seemed to be fine with Zoey's gestures to make up for touching not touching Elmo.

They did their final number and then each character came up and waved good-bye.  Taj would say their name and say "Bye Bert!" "Bye Ernie!" and waived wildly for each character.  He did a great job.  I feared he would throw a fit when it was over, wanting them still, but saying good-bye like he did he was satisfied.  I was so impressed with only a 20 minute nap.
Of course being Taj's Nana and Papa we did not let him go home empty handed, or with the balloon only.  We picked up a new shirt for him and package with 8 little characters to play with.
He was thrilled!  It was a great day!  Well worth the drive.  I plan to make a book with all the pictures I took for him, hopefully he will keep it and remember something about this special day with his Papa and Nana and Sesame Street.  He and Todd slept all the way home.

Once we got home, all he did was talk about the characters.  He played with his new guys and his new balloon.
It was a great day!  You should have heard him talking a mile a minute to his Mama about his day!

We Want To Know

 photo WWTKbutton-1-1_zps2077872a.jpg

It is that time of week where we get to know one another just a little more by participating with Scriptors' and Kenzie's little party... We Want to Know.

This week's questions are:
1.) How connected are you to your phone? Do you always have it on you?
2.) Would you be able to be away from your computer for an entire week?
3.) If you had to get rid of one of the following, which would it be and why? Cell phone, computer, or TV?
4.) Do you think you could ever live "off the grid"?
5.) Tell us about a time you disconnected from technology/the world and how you dealt with it. Was it good or bad?

Now for the answers:
1.) How connected are you to your phone? Do you always have it on you?  I try to remember to take it but there are days I walk off without it.
2.) Would you be able to be away from your computer for an entire week?  When we go on vacation we do.  I think that is about the only time we are.
3.) If you had to get rid of one of the following, which would it be and why? Cell phone, computer, or TV? Wow, that is sort of tough.  I guess Cell phone.
4.) Do you think you could ever live "off the grid"?  Umm... no!
5.) Tell us about a time you disconnected from technology/the world and how you dealt with it. Was it good or bad?  I have to when we have devastating news, like the school shootings, Hurricane Sandy, Oklahoma bombing and so forth.  I get so depressed by reading or hearing about the constant coverage.  I mean severe depression.  I constantly cry.  I can not sleep.  I have learned just to read or watch a little then turn it off.  9/11 was horrible for me too.  Good or Bad, I am not sure.  It all depends on how you look at it.

Alright, very little words...

Happy List

 photo ArtatHomeButton_zps18898da7.jpg

Every Tuesday is Happy List day.  A day to spread our HAPPINESS.  Ricki Jill host the little party over at Art @ Home.  I just love her.

What a wonderful weekend.  Okay not last night's weather.  The sirens going off while I was sleeping was not fun at all.  It threw my sleep way off.

Any hoo,  Saturday I meet up with my dear friend from my last job.  It was great seeing her and talking to her.  I wish I could have taken her with me when I left.

Sunday,  Oh my Sunday!   Sunday Todd and I spent 4 hours on the road with Taj but it was totally worth it.
Sesame Street Live
I recorded Taj during the intermission.

He was so excited.  I plan to post about it on Thursday and tomorrow, if you enjoy seeing fun Taj pictures, I plan to post a "Priceless" photo of him on Wordless Wednesday.  It was the exact moment when Elmo came on to stage!   That moment was just P R I C E L E S S !!!  It should be on the charge card commercial.  Tickets costing $110, gas $35, souvenir goodies $50, Taj's excitement Priceless.

Sunday's Song

Today is a special day for Todd and I.  We are headed to Des Moines with our special grandson.  (Our only grandchild.)  We are going to see Sesame Street Live!  I can not wait to see his face!  I can not wait to capture it with more pictures.  Today's song could be no other...

I found these on Youtube.  They are from the show we are going to see.  Taj is going to love this next one.

I am linking up to Miss Angie's Musical Mondays.
Her blog site is My So-Called Chaos.  I love her humor and she is a go getter.

Beginning Season Of Flower Gardens

Here's a little post of my flower gardens or the beginning of my flower gardens this year.  I just love them so far!  The first pictures are prior to last weekend's cleaning and adding new mulch.  Of course I will be posting more during the blooming season and a final shot after my new additions to my favorite flower garden.

My Daffodils in the front yard garden.
Some Tulips and Hyacinthia
I am going to have to fix my little girl's head.  She broke during storage.
See they are both missing a leg that I need to glue on too.
I wonder what they were doing in the shed all Winter long?
After the weekend clean up.
So much better, but many of the Spring flowers are gone.
Hostas are up though and Day Lilies are beginning to come up too.
Before my planters are filled and
before the bushes are filled with leaves.
I also need to paint two new bird houses to add to the Shepard hook.

I also have my Butterfly/Humming Bird garden in the back.

A couple of weeks ago after cleaning it up for the new growing season.
Amazing the beauty in just a couple of weeks.
I am still adding to this garden, trying to get something to entice them
through out the entire season.

I have four different flower beds around our shed.

Here is the left side.  I planted these plants and bulbs four years ago.  I have never seen my Oriental Lilies (Star Fighter, Star Gazers, and Casablanca) yet.  The stupid rabbits eat them every Spring before they get too big.  I also have only seen my Asiatic lilies the first year when I planted them because they eat them too.  This year, we put up a little fence and netting to keep them out.  They have grown bigger than they have in the years past.  Here's hoping it works.
They should have spread by now.
I also have plans to add some colorful birdhouses to this section.
I can not wait to complete them.

The backside of the shed is my Day Lily garden.  I just realized, I never took a picture of the greenery this season yet.  It also has one hosta towards the end.  This is the garden this guy found a home this season.
Near the end by one of my Lilac bushes.
The other end has a Butterfly bush which looks dead until sometime in June.

The right side of the shed is lined with two different types of hostas.  I did not take a picture of it yet either.

The front is my favorite flower garden.  Here is a picture after we took all the Lamb's Ear out (I am sure we will find new pop up.) and after the boys added two Iris plants for me and planted Gladiola bulbs which will bloom later this Summer.  It is also prior to mulching.
and we are adding my arbor to it now.
We will be adding two Clematis on each side of the arbor.
Here is a picture of one of them in the pot still.
Right behind Taj.  :)

I will show the after once it is completed.  I have thought about adding a quilt square to our shed too, but have not mentioned it to Todd yet or picked out which quilt square to use.

Keep your eye out for more Garden post during the season because gardening is definitely one of my passions.

I copied this post from our Garden Blog.
