Eclipse Weekend

Last weekend was our weekend for having Taj and typically on Monday after our weekend we have to pick him up from Education Station, which is his before and after school program as well as school break.  We really wanted to go to an area to see the total eclipse so we took Taj with us and made it a overnight vacation.  It was Taj's last Summer Hoorah before school started.

He spent the night with us on Saturday and we got up early in the morning, packed the car and set off for Missouri.

We wanted something fun for Taj as well so Sunday we spent the day at St Louis Zoo.  The zoo is no charge and is a very large zoo. They did have parts you had to pay to see like the shows but we did not miss out on anything.

The newest addition, the baby Rhino.
We spent three hours there and only saw only two thirds of the zoo before Taj became too hot and wanted to go swimming at our hotel. We piled into the car and drove another 3 hours to a town North of Columbia, Missouri where our hotel was. After dinner we all enjoyed swimming outdoors. It was so refreshing after being outdoors in the heat and the heat rising off the blacktop.

The next morning we packed up the car and drove another hour and went to a state park to see the total eclipse. We had lunch and then we put on special glasses.

There was a 20% chance of rain when it was time of totality and 5 minutes prior to totality dark clouds rolled in and blocked the sun, shortly after the temperatures dropped and the wind picked up.  Birds began to sing the cicadas began singing their songs.  I thought to myself I need to pick up everything quickly because if the storm coming.  As I was picking up the chairs I looked up and saw the sunrise in the West and took a quick picture.

Then I heard a group of people starting to cheer and Todd said something about how cool it was and I looked up.  I fricking missed the totality but caught the ring off fire and was able to see the diamond ring. It was so awesome!  Definitely worth taking the day off and driving as far as we did.
The picture does not do it justice.

We then drive back home to take Taj to his Meet his teacher night and ice cream social night.  It is so hard to believe Wednesday he officially became a first grader.  When did he grow up?

Vacation 2017...The Beginning

Today was a very tough one in the since of having to go back to work and being so far behind for the month already but I would not change the fact I was gone for 2 weeks. It was a great 2 weeks.  My vacation started o Friday when we left to go to Des Moines to see Paul McCartney in concert.

I am really not a big fan of auto correct. Most of the time I do not catch the correction, like changing Des to Drs. **Ugh**

I was so excited. I was curious if I would run into any of my friend or family since so many were going. I mean I did have some chance of seeing someone since it was my hometown for 38 years.  Funny thing is I saw no one but Todd ran into a friend from high school who lives 3 hours away.

Finally the show began! 😍

I enjoyed every minute of it.  He definitely is a performer.  I just wished I was not so tired from all the extra work.  I still loved it.

Do you have a star you are nuts over?

The New Home

Welcome!  You are at the right spot.  My blog looks different and much happier now.  I am so seriously trying to focus on beating my depression.  I was away for some time.  One of the things I noticed the past few post is how dark and depressing the look of my blog is and made this one of my goals for August to update.  I love nature and found this design very much suites me. I am going to try to make a little more changes during the month but I am very pleased with the new look.

Gifts For The Grandchildren

Once we became grandparents for the first time we have always made a point to give a book for every holiday and every time we have gone on vacation we try to pick up a book about the area we a visiting.

It began with Washington DC, we found a baby board book "Goodnight DC" very much the style "Goodnight Moon".

This year we picked up two houses a set of books.  Here is what we picked up for Taj.
"the Troublesome Cub in the Great Smoky Mountains" is a cute little book that he can read himself and enjoy the Cubs mischievous adventures. "The Big Bat" is a book about the big bat at the Louisville Slugger Museum. It explains how big the bat actually is. "I Am Abraham Lincoln" is about President Lincoln.  We bought him "I am Jackie Robinson" for his birthday.

Here are the books we picked up for the twins.
"Great Smoky Mountains Wee Ones" is a comparison of how families as humans and animals in the Great Smoky Mountains do thing similar. "Find My Friends" is a cute little book about animals. We picked up "The Big Bat" as well and the last book their parents will have to read to them for awhile is "Kid Presidents" this book has a small chapter about every president up to Obama and a story or event when they were a child and a few facts about each President.

We do not pick up shirts any longer most of the time they do not wear them and we think the books are a great gift.

Do you buy books for your children/grandchildren?

August Goals

It has been awhile since I did a monthly Goal but I want to get back to this, so here are my goals for August.

  • Post about my vacation.
  • Try a new Pinterest recipe per week.
  • Begin health regimen with personal trainer.
  • Complete the makeover of Master Bedroom.
  • Complete makeover of the tiny Mater Bedroom Bathroom.
  • Complete one book.
  • Spring Clean (I know I am late, I will blame it on depression) the Kitchen.
  • Try to take time off to go to a state where we can see the total eclipse.
  • Make an appointment for Christian's (Noah) Senior pictures.
  • Update blog's colors.
If I can accomplish this I will be happy. My depression is getting a better so I am having more energy again.
